Running in Korea

.."JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT"..

chuck hohenstein

dokdo marathon/5k/10k on Sunday at Jamshil

anybody here doing it? I'm doing the 10k (my first 10k race) for the first time I actually got my stuff in time. Now to figure out how the timing chip works. It looks like it stays stuck on the back of the number but if anybody can help I'd appreciate it.

Hopefully it will be a nice way to end the semester and celebrate my birthday on Monday I dont have a prayer of running my age, maybe next year

There are generally two types of timing chips I've seen. One that stays on the number, and the other that goes on your shoes/ankles. If the chip is on the number pretty tight, it's likely you should keep it there. If it's in a ziplock bag, it might come off. Just look at what other people have if possible, or ask an official that looks like they know what's going on (I suggest pointing to the chip on the back of the number and saying "majayo?" Hope that helps. Maybe someone else who registered can help you if they have the chip as well.

Have a good one. I was going to do the race, but I've had some rough weeks and I have had a hard time running lately and decided not to register. Hopefully I can get another race in before it's back to Canada in September...

well in the race program all it shows is the chip on the back of the number a person taking it out of its baggie and holding it. maybe it does stay there.

btw there is a person at univ who always asks about you think his name is mr seong (I work at Baewha Womens College).

Hmmm..... could be for after the race, showing you how to return it? I'd either a) see what everyone else is doing, or if that isn't possible or easy to figure out b) ask an official. Odds are someone has some English or can figure out what you mean...

Someone is asking about me? I really try to fly under the radar. Unless it's someone who saw me at a race... I've talked to a few people (but I don't know anyone's names). There have been a few people I've recognized from race to race... interesting... Was this Mr. Seong at the race that I was at? Or did you not mean me at all...

thanks, me and the guy i'm running should be able to figure it out. i'll ask when i'm changing. btw this race has a massage area for afterwards do you know how much they usually charge? in the states its about $1/min

he was at the race you and i did at doksueng, maybe he knows you because you beat him in a race or something. he just keeps asking if i know you. he must think all expat runners hang out together or something.

right now i try and keep him happy because its people like him that grease the wheels for contract renewals
